GNU is the GMES Network of Users. The partnership involves sixteen major national and regional level GMES user organisations, a European Topic Centre, and four scientific institutions and two SMEs which support the network.
Funding for GNU is provided by the Sixth Framework Programme of the European Commission. The project attempts to set up an independent platform as the focal point and mouthpiece of European national and regional level user needs within GMES. Likewise, it fosters a systematic dialogue between the various stakeholder communities involved.
And – GNU still is the first and only GMES project conducted and led by users.
